Who Are You Calling Cheap? SaveEveryday.com Announces the Top Ten Most Frugal Cities

Search, show, save!

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

Coupons and discount cards are being featured everywhere thanks to the lagging economy — from TLC’s Extreme Couponing to the Celebrity Apprentice, coupons have gone mainstream. SaveEveryday.com, the nation’s leading mobile couponing site, has found the best couponers in the nation with the top ten most frugal cities.

While many of the cities were expected — with Houston, Chicago and San Antonio in the top three, cities like New York, Miami and Las Vegas also made the list. Residents of both smaller, traditionally family-focused cities as well as trend-setting urban areas are using coupons to have as much frugal fun as possible. The full list, which combines member and merchant saturation, can be found below:

1.    Houston

2.    Chicago

3.    San Antonio

4.    Columbus

5.    Indianapolis

6.    New York

7.    Miami

8.    Dallas

9.    Jacksonville

10.    Las Vegas

“Couponing is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, and it’s easier than ever,” according to SaveEveryday.com Director of Savings Nissa Rhodes. “We have seen a significant shift in not only the way in which coupons are redeemed, but also about who it is that is using these coupons. Now that you can just use the GPS on your smartphone to find deals nearby, the typical coupon user has shifted from being primarily middle-aged mothers of multiple children clipping flyers to hip, urban families and singles who use coupons as a part of their everyday lives.

Rhodes continues, “It started with the group-buy sites, where couponing met social media. Now it’s evolved to a place where people are reluctant to pay full price for anything. With mobile couponing garnering interest from more brands, it makes sense that tech-savvy consumers are embracing it.”

SaveEveryday.com scours the country in search of only the top-desired deals on items you buy every day. With discounts at national retailers like Target, McDonald’s, Subway, JC Penney, Sephora, Kmart, Home Depot, and Foot Locker, just to name a few, SaveEveryday.com is taking the extreme out of couponing and making it fun and easy for everyone! To speak to Ms. Rhodes regarding the growing phenomenon of mobile couponing, please do not hesitate to contact me.

TJ & Pals Launches A Unique Line Of Educational Apps For Kids

TJ & Pals Launches A Unique Line Of Educational Apps For Kids

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) November 29, 2011

Umachaka Media Inc., headed by award winning film director Ashley Lazarus, has just launched a new line of educational apps for pre-schoolers. With these creative new games, TJ & Pals has figured out how to utilize verified educational principles to provide kids with a learning experience without even realizing that they are learning.

TJ & Pals has been approved by educators all over the country because it’s games and activities have solid educational foundations. Lazarus explains, “kids have a remarkable intuitive ability to tune in…to absorb information…to process…to sort out complexity…to learn.” Adults and kids learn differently. Adults intellectualize; kids learn intuitively. When Lazarus developed his apps he constantly asked himself, ‘how would a child think about this?’ and he created his apps accordingly.

Umachaka has designed apps for the ipad and the computer that provides kids with games, songs, puzzles, stories and videos that aim to challenge kids on their level, unbeknownst to the giggling children at the computer screen. TJ’s Puzzle Fun is an app that provides kids with a choice of four puzzles on four different levels. When your child completes the puzzle the picture comes to life in a song or video which the child can freely watch again and again. Puzzles are an excellent means of improving a child’s spatial awareness and problem solving skills. The songs and videos at the end of the puzzles are a wonderful way of providing positive reinforcement for a job well done.

TJ’s Remember is a memory game played on one of three levels of difficulty with six colorful themes to choose from. When a child finds a match she is rewarded with a playful tune. This game is a fun way to develop a child’s memory.

TJ’s Seek&Find is an app in which a child is presented with one of four scenes such as a toy store or a circus. He is asked to locate ten items in that scene. Once he finds those items he is transported to another scene, such as a child’s bedroom, where he is asked to match the items with shapes that are in the bedroom. When the items are placed in the proper place the bedroom comes to life with music and dancing. This app develops a child’s pre-reading skills as well as a child’s self-esteem.

TJ’s Picture Dictionary is a colorful talking dictionary that is suitable for young children. It allows kids access to new words and ideas and is perfect for an audience of pre-readers who are building their vocabularies.

TJ’s Art Studio is for those budding artists to draw, paint, and stamp their way into fame and fortune (or their parents’ refrigerators, whichever comes first). A pencil named TJ with his friends Dabney the paintbrush, the Koki markers, and Butch the eraser are the tools that children use to play with their A,B,C’s and 1,2,3’s as well as make pictures for their friends and family members in this portable art studio.

Umachaka Media Inc. has developed imaginative ways to teach children ages 3-5 through creative, interactive games and activities that will keep them coming back for more. As designer and developer Ashley Lazarus says, “The more fun and interactive learning is the more effective it is. Every game, activity, How To, and story we create at TJ & Pals is based on this principle.”

Luxury and Sustainability Celebrate 5th Anniversary in Costa Rica’s Tulemar Resort

Luxury and Sustainability Celebrate 5th Anniversary in Costa Rica’s Tulemar Resort

Luxury jungle living in harmony with the environment

Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

Sustainability and green technologies aren’t retro-fitted at Casa las Nubes, which means “Cloud House” in Spanish. Instead, owners Howard and Leah Cloud, along with Costa Rican architect Andres Morales, took great care to incorporate passive cooling features, a rainwater collection system, solar water heating and solar electricity into the design of the home long before the ground-breaking.

Howard explains, “Because of global needs to lesson our dependence on fossil fuels, we wanted to create a more sustainable, energy efficient home showing what resources are right here within an arm’s reach in Costa Rica. We harvest the sun for electricity and hot water, and with an annual rainfall of 150″ here in the Manuel Antonio area, we have a water catchment system for the ‘jugo de nubes’ (rainwater).” He adds, “The need to reduce carbon emissions is as important today as ever. Now five years after completion, taking stock of the project’s success is a real joy.”

Located in Manuel Antonio on the hillside facing the Pacific Ocean in the exclusive Tulemar Gardens residential resort, Casa Las Nubes features a roof designed to capture almost 2,000 gallons of water per inch of rain fall. The collection and filtration system is capable of storing 5,280 gallons for use in the house and gardens. Three sediment filters, a charcoal filter and a final ultraviolet system ensure that guests have the purest water available. As an added benefit, the roof’s 10 foot overhangs provide passive cooling, reducing the home’s dependence on air-conditioning to maintain comfortable temperatures. The distinctive swimming pool that flows through the middle of the home also contributes to this goal.

Casa las Nubes is still wired to the grid, but the six 190-watt solar panels on the roof generate the majority of the electricity the home requires. A battery system stores the electricity for later use. With the practice of a few ordinary conservation habits, like turning off lights when you leave the room, guests help make sure the clean, green electricity keeps flowing.

But all this eco-friendliness must come with some sort of sacrifice in comfort and luxury, right? Not at all. As many guests can attest, all the features that make Casa Las Nubes a model of sustainability are virtually invisible, and there’s no lack of modern conveniences. As Dave Houck, owner of Tulemar Vacation Home Rentals explains, “It’s not necessary to live like Robinson Crusoe to create a living space that’s more harmonious with the planet. Every detail of Casa Las Nubes reveals the thoughtfulness of brilliant design, and the vacationing guests who stay with us rave about it. They leave with a better understanding of how we all might enjoy the benefits of greener living.”

Details like a gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops are good alternatives to petroleum based plastics and composites, providing greater durability and re-usability. The warmth and visual variation provided by the use of locally farmed hardwoods throughout the home directly benefits the farmers and incentivizes sound growing practices.

As a prototype of what’s possible, Casa Las Nubes won’t be the only example of the marriage of luxury and sustainability. The Clouds have recently completed follow-up project in the challenging northern climate of Homer, Alaska.

Chocolate and diamonds: Why volcanoes could be a girl’s best friend

Pelletal lapilli from kimberlite volcano

Southampton (PRWEB UK) 16 May 2012

Scientists from the University of Southampton have discovered a previously unrecognised volcanic process, similar to one that is used in chocolate manufacturing, which gives important new insights into the dynamics of volcanic eruptions.

The scientists investigated how a process called ‘fluidised spray granulation’ can occur during kimberlite eruptions to produce well-rounded particles containing fragments from the Earth’s mantle, most notably diamonds. This physical process is similar to the gas injection and spraying process used to form smooth coatings on confectionary, and layered and delayed-release coatings in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and fertilisers.

Kimberlite volcanoes are the primary source of diamonds on Earth, and are formed by gas-rich magmas from mantle depths of over 150 km. Kimberlite volcanism involves high-intensity explosive eruptions, forming diverging pipes or ‘diatremes’, which can be several hundred metres wide and several kilometres deep. A conspicuous and previously mysterious feature of these pipes are ‘pelletal lapilli ’ — well-rounded magma coated fragments of rock consisting of an inner ‘seed’ particle with a complex rim, thought to represent quenched magma.

These pelletal lapilli form by spray granulation when kimberlite magma intrudes into earlier volcaniclastic infill close to the diatreme root zone. Intensive degassing produces a gas jet in which the seed particles are simultaneously fluidised and coated by a spray of low-viscosity melt.

In kimberlites, the occurrence of pelletal lapilli is linked to diamond grade (carats per tonne), size and quality, and therefore has economic as well as academic significance.

Dr Thomas Gernon, Lecturer in Earth Science at the University of Southampton, says: “The origin of pelletal lapilli is important for understanding how magmatic pyroclasts are transported to the surface during explosive eruptions, offering fundamental new insights into eruption dynamics and constraints on vent conditions, notably gas velocity.”

“The ability to tightly constrain gas velocities is significant, as it enables estimation of the maximum diamond size transported in the flow. Gas fluidisation and magma-coating processes are also likely to affect the diamond surface properties.”

Dr Gernon and colleagues studied two of the world’s largest diamond mines in South Africa and Lesotho. In the Letseng pipe in Lesotho, pelletal lapilli have been found in association with concentrations of large diamonds (up to 215 carat), which individually can fetch up to tens of millions of pounds. Knowledge of flow dynamics will inform models of mineral transport, and ultimately could improve resource assessments.

Dr Gernon, who is based at the National Oceanography Centre at Southampton’s waterfront campus, says: “This multidisciplinary research, incorporating Earth sciences, chemical and mechanical engineering, provides evidence for fluidised granulation in natural systems which will be of considerable interest to engineers and chemical, pharmaceutical and food scientists who use this process routinely. The scale and complexity of this granulation process is unique, as it has not previously been recognised in natural systems.”

The paper ‘The origin of pelletal lapilli in explosive kimberlite eruptions’ is published in the latest issue of Nature Communications.

Over the course of less than two weeks, eKomi has gathered feedback from over 70 recent Ties-Necktie.com customers, asking them to rate their experience shopping on the site and offer comments on the retailer’s service. The survey has thus far proven that Ties-Necktie.com customers are overwhelmingly happy with their purchases, are likely to become repeat customers and likely to recommend the site to others.

Ties-Necktie.com, which carries thousands of modern and classic neck and bow ties, as well as a vast selection of ascots, scarves, cufflinks, tie bars and other accessories, is quickly developing a reputation for outstanding, consumer-friendly policies and customer service.

“The feedback eKomi has gathered not only improves trust in our site, but, even more importantly, it tells us what customers really think. It gives us the opportunity to further improve our site, products and customer service,” said Hendrik Pohl, the e-commerce entrepreneur who founded Ties-Necktie.com. “As glad as I am for such positive feedback, I’m eager to see where we stand as more and more customer reviews come in. There is always room for improvement and we trust that our customers will let us know where our strengths and weaknesses lie.”

Ties-Necktie.com educates and empowers the consumer by offering unique services not found on other sites. Tutorials on how to tie a tie, a complete fashion dictionary and a mens fashion blog are just some of the features found on Ties-Necktie.com. Once a consumer is informed, he can visit the site’s shop section to find the exact ties he’s looking for—no matter which tie designer he seeks or what kind of occasion he’s shopping for. Shoppers will find ties in every hue, pattern and size, including extra long ties for the big & tall and also shorter neckties especially made for kids, all at affordable prices.

The attention to detail is not lost on Ties-Necktie.com buyers. One customer reviewer praised the ties as “an excellent buy for the money.” Another reviewer thanked the online retailer for “the easiest online ordering system I have seen in a while!” “We could ask for no better service or value,” heaped on one satisfied shopper.
